Run Sackboy Run | Review

Run Sackboy Run isn’t a traditional LittleBigPlanet game. This is the first game in the LittleBigPlanet series to be released on a device not made by Sony. Run Sackboy Run did end up on the Playstation Vita eventually, but it was initially released on Android and iOS.

Run Sackboy Run is an infinite runner game. You tap the screen to make Sackboy jump, and swipe the screen right to make him dash. The goal of Run Sackboy Run is to collect as many Score Bubbles as possible before your inevitable demise.

This game is not a true LittleBigPlanet game. Let’s get that out of the way. This game knows what it’s trying to be, and that is an engaging infinite runner. Whether or not is accomplishes this goal is what we will determine.

Pros:

Run Sackboy Run looks tremendously similar to a LittleBigPlanet game. It almost looks like it’s running a modified version of LittleBigPlanet 2!

Unlike most other free to play games, Run Sackboy Run doesn’t require you to purchase anything major. There’s still the option to purchase some assistance, but there is nothing keeping you from getting the full experience without purchasing a single thing.

Collecting various stickers can unlock costumes in LittleBigPlanet 3, and for some costumes, LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 as well.

Cons:

I said earlier that this isn’t a traditional LittleBigPlanet game, but it wouldn’t have hurt to have something new. This game has you running through the Gardens from LittleBigPlanet 1, Avalonia from LittleBigPlanet 2, and the Canyons from LittleBigPlanet 1 again. After you pass the canyon, you go back to the gardens.

That also means that they recycled music from the first two games as well. Most of the songs from the first two games are awesome, but the ones they chose are some of the more forgettable songs in the first two games. It would have been nice to have some remixes done to the music instead of flat out recycling it.

Overall Opinion:

Run Sackboy Run is a fantastic time waster, and I’ve found myself sitting around playing it for way too much time. The ability to unlock costumes in the main series is awesome as well. Anyone with a PSVita should give it a shot. Anyone with an Android or iOS device with enough storage space should try it.
