LittleBigPlanet 3

I’ve been a fan of the LittleBigPlanet series since the first game. I’ve never been particularly good at making anything within the world of LittleBigPlanet, but that has never stopped me from trying. The way levels are created in this game means that anyone can pick it up and make something, but the quality varies.

LittleBigPlanet 3 takes a large amount of influence from LittleBigPlanet 2, but makes it bigger. LittleBigPlanet 3 adds various hub worlds, 16 total layers to use, teleporters, and several different upgrades you unlock as you play the game.

Pros:

Creating backgrounds is much easier because the game offers 16 layers, instead of the 3 layers that LittleBigPlanet 1 and 2 gave you. You don’t need to worry about losing an entire layer that could be used in improving the gameplay, because you need a half-decent background.

Customizing your levels is even easier do to the ability to make your own stickers. You don’t need to awkwardly build an image out of existing stickers, then try to make the lighting just right, just so you can take a picture of the mix of stickers. You want a picture? You make the picture yourself.

LittleBigPlanet 3 also allows you to play levels created in the first two games.

Cons:
Personally, I quite like when I can discover a new glitch in a game. It’s like discovering a new path to explore the boundaries of a game. I have the power to see the inner workings of a game. But LittleBigPlanet 3 has several glitches that do nothing but kill the player. Sometimes you’ll be climbing on a wall and you teleport 2 feet to the right. Sometimes you’re teleported to a non-existent layer in front of all the other layers.

Who here likes loading?... I hope you raised your hand, because there’s plenty of it in LittleBigPlanet 3. Every time you enter or exit a level it will take quite awhile to load. Loading hub levels are especially painful

Not that you’ll really want to go to the hub worlds because.

The hub worlds are extremely large in LittleBigPlanet 3. There are several levels which are all linked within the hub world, but there aren’t enough levels to warrant the size of the hub world. Some sections of each hub world are blocked off unless you use another character, so sometimes you need to use Oddsock instead of Sackboy, but sometimes you need Sackboy, and Oddsock won’t work.

Some items are behind a paywall. Several levels have items that require multiple players to be present, meaning you’ll need to either buy multiple controllers, or find other players online to help you get the items. And the Playstation 4 requires Playstation Plus in order to play multiplayer, which is another cost.

Overall Opinion:

Imagine that a game development team has to find a balance between design and technology. In this case, Sumo Digital put all they had to design, which caused significant problems with the technological side of LittleBigPlanet 3.

LittleBigPlanet 3 is a very fun game at times, but it has too many bugs to be worth $60.
